Majority of Danes have dropped cable link to Internet

February 17 2010

According the latest survey conducted by Gallup for TDC, 2009 was the year when Danes really went wireless. For the first time ever, a majority of Danes used laptops - and a majority went online via a wireless connection in their home.

Says TDC's President of Private Customers, Jesper Theill Eriksen:
"The combination of a wireless network and a laptop has actually revolutionised the way we use the Internet at home. Whether you want to watch web TV in the garden or use your laptop as an online cookbook, you can just carry it with you. Not long ago, you were chained to your desk with an Internet cable link and stationary PC if you wanted to surf the Net."

While only 9 per cent of Danes had a wireless network in 2004, that figure increased to 52 per cent in 2009. Over that same five-year period, the share of Danes who use a laptop increased from 20 per cent to 56 per cent.

"And we have definitely not seen the end of the wireless trend. The next step will be not only having wireless at home, but everywhere. That process is already underway. We are seeing more and more customers buying mobile broadband and mini PCs," explains Jesper Theill Eriksen.
