In TDC, we strive to have a diverse workplace. First and foremost, because a diverse workplace helps ensure that TDC creates value for our customers, shareholders, employees and society.
Diversity in TDC is to show each employee respect, and focus on the individual qualities and unique skills, he or she has. In this way we create the necessary impetus to compete in a complex market. The demographic composition of society is changing constantly. We no longer have the same references, as we used to, when there was only one telecommunications company and one type of subscribers. Today, our customers have different needs and expectations to us, and we must be able to meet these expectations and needs.
Therefore, we must always maximise our efforts to see the potential in employees, who are different and have different prerequisites. We must take care to use the many resources that are already among the employees in TDC, and when we hire new employees, we need to find new ways of recruiting. We must dare to challenge ourselves and explore new avenues to ensure that we fulfill our vision of becoming the best telecommunications company in Europe in 2012. The talent we need in order to fulfill this vision may come from other places than we are accustomed to.
Examples of initiatives for greater diversity in TDC
A collaboration with the National Network of Business Leaders to create a firm response to youth crime prevention. The overall objective of this initiative is to secure better jobs and educational opportunities for young people who are otherwise in danger of marginalization because of crime.
Seniors are a valuable resource to TDC, but at some point the work life comes to an end, and it should preferably be done with the greatest pleasure and benefit for both the employee by the company. One option which lies within the senior policy is flexible working conditions or offers to improve IT skills.
Low impact jobs
Our efforts to increase inclusiveness can be seen from our work to promote Low impact jobs in TDC. Over the past several years, we have made an extra effort to prevent dismissal, when an employee due to illness, personal problems or reduced work can not perform at his or her usual levels.
TDC has for several years worked with The Specialists. A company started by a former TDC employee, who help people with autism/spectrum disorders to function in a normal job with their special skills.
